Every person in this world has strengths and weaknesses. A successful person is one who polishes their skills and builds on their strength. Work hard to minimize the effects of your weaknesses or completely getting rid of them altogether – This is what successful people do. The first thing you must do is to identify your strength and weaknesses.

When you know about your shortcomings, you can target them better. Your goal should be to strive to bring improvements in your life. This self-improvement phase continues throughout your life. There is always room for some improvements. You can start with smaller steps and then take it from there.

Here are some of the best ways in which you can improve your life.

Wake Up Early

“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” The saying conveys one of the most important lessons you should follow throughout your life if you want to become a successful person. Sleeping helps you gain more time during the day, allowing you to be more productive than those who wake up late.

Read a Book

Books are source of wisdom so the more you read, the more knowledge you will acquire. A good book will bring a positive change in your life as you discover new things.

Learn a New Language

Learning a new language will add a new skill to your repertoire and will prove to be a unique experience. With internet and mobile apps on your side, you can easily learn a new language. You can easily communicate with others and it will help you know about different cultures. Choose a language you want to learn and get started.

Get Rid of the Shell

You should get out of your comfort zone and discover the world outside. You will be exposed to different situations and face different circumstances that will teach you some new lessons. Staying confined to your shell will take you nowhere. Break the routine and try to do something different.

Avoid Negative People

Surround yourself with positive energy and positive people as this will infuse positivity in you. Try to look at the positive aspects of everything. Avoid negative and pessimist people as much as possible and never react to what they have to say. It might not be easy because you might find such people everywhere you go. Learn how to deal with such people if you cannot avoid them.

goalsJohn Dewey once said, “Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another”.

It’s almost December ! New year is right around the corner! What is your 2014 resolutions? Did you guys achieve all the goals from last year? Life is about living! Set goals that motivate you and makes you happy.

Make sure the goal is important to you, which means there is a high value in achieving them. To make sure your goals are motivating, write down why it is important to you. Moreover, set a SMART goal – Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bond.

Goals can not be generalized that does not have sufficient path. Make sure that you put precise dates and amounts to measure your degree of accomplishments.

Be realistic and set a goal that is attainable. Don’t under or over estimate your abilities. Set a goal you can achieve if you worked hard at it.

Setting relevant goal means setting goals that are aligned with your life or career.

Your goals must have deadline! so you can celebrate your success. Deadline give people urgency to increase productivity.

Tips: Have a calendar and plan ahead. Make an action plan. Write goals out and stick with it. To keep yourself on track, keep reminding yourself!

Set goals for 2014! and stick with it!

Step by step!

What do you do to relax and recharge yourself?

It is essential for humans to take some time to relax and reflect on their life.

One of my favorite thing to do is light up some scented candles (I am feeling pumpkin butter scent for October. Yum.) and read.

The recent book I started reading is called “Feel the Fear And Do It Anyway” by Susan Jeffers. She encourages self- empowerment and discusses profound concepts that help let go of their fears and move forward with their life.

Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway

I always thought fear is a choice. The thought of fear only limits one’s potential to be great.

As long as you are growing, fear is inevitable. Make the best out of every situation and enjoy the ride.

Based on this article, Bronnie has now released a full length book titled The Top Five Regrets of the Dying – A Life Transformed by the Dearly Departing. It is a memoir of her own life and how it was transformed through the regrets of the dying people she cared for. This inspiring book is available internationally through Hay House.

Nurse reveals the top 5 regrets people make on their deathbed

Life and Health

My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives. People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality.

I learnt never to underestimate someone’s capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them.

When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again. Here are the most common five:

1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
This was the most common regret of all. When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honored even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.

It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.

2. I wish I didn’t work so hard.
This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children’s youth and their partner’s companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.

By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.

3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.

We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly, in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthier level. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.

It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called ‘comfort’ of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again. When you are on your deathbed, what others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to let go and smile again, long before you are dying.

Life is a choice. It is YOUR life. Choose consciously, choose wisely, choose honestly. Choose happiness.

learning, life, meaning, thoughts, yourself

I’ve had the chance to reflect on the past years of my life, and I realized many things!

Being healthy matters. Learn to appreciate your health. Eat healthy and exercise daily.

It doesn’t matter what people think of you, and you can’t please everyone.

Joy can come from unexpected places. As life gets more complicated, you learn to take more joy in the simple things.

You’re not stuck. You get to choose how you will live. Draw your own life and make dreams your goals.

Your decisions affect more people than just yourself.  See life as the big picture, and you are a small but important piece in it.

Your words have a lot of power, so be careful what you say. They can build up and they can destroy. Kind words can go a long way. You learn to be more careful with how you use the words you have been given. They have the power to change lives.

Forgiveness is worth the hard work.

Success in life means so much more than what you thought it would. My friendships, family and faith have taken on a whole new meaning within the definition of success.

Worry doesn’t really change your future.

There’s so much more to your identity than you ever imagined. Physical appearance is a small fraction of who you are.

You’ve made a lot of mistakes, and you will make many more. But you learn to forgive yourself and move on.

Life doesn’t always turn out how you expect.

Those doors closed for a reason.

There is still so much to learn. Like the old saying goes, the more you know, the more you know you don’t know.

I tell them it’s because I like to help people. To me, community service is a way of giving back.
Many think that community service is just something you are forced to do. I like making people feel as though they matter, and it gives me a warm feeling at the end of the day because I feel I have made a difference. I grow as a person each time I do community service. I had a pleasure helping out the Salvation Army with kid’s playground and the garden. Being a leader in the community, you have an obligation to that community to help out and do what you can to better the community. People should be willing to give back to the community that help raised them, whether that is donating funds, volunteering, or both. Every person can make a difference in their community; all they have to do is try.

One step at a time…

With Judy Lee (Miss Asia Sacramento 2012)

The brave souls are gone, but they can never be forgotten. On Veteran’s Day, lets remember and salute their courage. They fought fearlessly for the national pride.

They served till the last breath. We salute and respect the spirit, that binds our nation together.

Today is the day to salute all those who have given up their lives for the sake of the country. Let us, in unison, promise to be responsible citizens for the betterment of our country. Have a Happy Veteran’s Day.

Let us remember all the sacrifices made my our military so that we could have a safer life. No amount of appreciation will be sufficient enough to honor them. Let us just pray for them and their families. Have a Happy Veteran’s Day.

Love,

Christina Lee
